We are currently developing a kindergarten level of Reading RULES! Using these materials, teachers will provide a daily 20-to 30- minute small group intervention lesson that includes two components: Word Study (instruction in alphabetic knowledge, phonics, word reading, and spelling) and Text Reading (in which students apply what they learn in Word Study lessons as they read). As students begin to learn to decode text, shared reading is done using non-fiction text with attractive full-color photographs. The program includes engaging activities designed to keep students focused on the lessons. For example, students manipulate magnetic letters during word-reading and spelling instruction. The program is time-efficient and easy for teachers to follow, with graphics-enhanced unit and lesson organizers.
